AUSTRALIAN GOLF HERITAGE HUB

Preserving and bringing Australian Golf’s rich history to life.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Providing a platform to be able to manage and celebrate Australian golf’s rich history that inspires current and future generations.

Australian Golf has a rich history that dates back to the 1820’s and since then the game has grown to be what it is today which has shaped the Australian sporting landscape through our wonderful golf courses and great players.

As the game has evolved, so too has a wonderful collection of items that have been compiled and curated by golf heritage groups and by individual clubs across the country.

We now want to care, preserve, elevate, protect, and bring to life these heritage collections. In order to be able to achieve this, the Australian Golf Heritage Hub Project has been created.

Its mission will be to:

  • Provide leading, professional heritage services for the care and protection of golf heritage in Australia.

  • Manage the heritage collections and assets at the Australian Golf Centre (AGC) to professional standards.

  • Work in partnership with respective golf heritage groups and golf clubs to run projects that benefit multiple heritage collections.

  • Provide leadership in the three pillars of heritage management – (i) developing collections, (ii) managing collections and (iii) sharing collections.

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to provide leading heritage services at a national level to enable the collecting, preserving and sharing of golf heritage across Australia to ensure that our rich golfing history inspires current and future generations.

WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT

Since the early 1970's, considerable voluntary work has been diligently undertaken by golf heritage groups and golf clubs to develop and curate a heritage archive for Australian Golf.

While GA provides resources to foster this area, additional investment and specialist expertise is needed to be able to fully provide a Golf Heritage Hub now and into the future.

OUR VISION FOR CHANGE

Our vision is to bring Australian golf’s rich history and heritage to the golfing community so they may be inspired and to provide the context of ‘before’ so that golf may look to the ‘future’.

The Australian Golf Heritage Hub will:

  • Bring our collections up to a standard that we can share this heritage with the public.

  • Run projects which can both combine with and complement those undertaken by golf heritage groups and golf clubs.

  • Create central repositories of data and information which can be shared through a broader heritage service delivered on multiple platforms.

  • Focus on the AGC as the Home of Australian Golf, whilst acknowledging it is not the only site of golf heritage in Australia.

WHAT WILL BE OUR IMPACT

Australian Golf undoubtedly has a rich history and by bringing the vast array of images, film, videos and collections to life, both online and via actual display, the story of golf in every aspect will be better accessed and understood.

Through sharing Australian golf’s rich history and heritage, we will inspire more Australians to engage and participate in golf so that the sport can continue to thrive now and into the future.

WHAT INVESTMENT IS REQUIRED

The total cost of the project is estimated to be $500,000.
